Glass is very versatile and extremely important material for modern architecture. Glazed units make a larger part of windows or terrace door surface; therefore, their properties strongly affect the quality of the end product. Glazed units must perform the functions of thermal insulation, solar heat control, safety, and decoration.
PVC windows and terrace doors are produced with double glazed and triple glazed units.
Features of glazed units
Thermal glazing. The glazed units of this group contain 1 or 2 heat-reflecting glass panels. These glazed units reflect the heat back into the room, i.e., they significantly reduce output of thermal radiation to the outside and thus feature enhanced thermal insulation.
Solar control glazing. Glazed units made of solar control glass reduce solar heat gain. Glazing properties become more significant with ever increasing use of glass in buildings. Solar control becomes one of the key features.
Sound insulating glazing. Noise reduction up to 50dB can be achieved by using thicker or specially laminated glass panels. Note that proper installation of windows using suitable materials has a great impact on the overall noise reduction.
Safety glazing. The glazed units can be made of laminated, tempered or reinforced glass panels. Design of buildings should take into account the function of the premises and intensity of human traffic or activity, i.e., the critical traffic zones with high flow of people should be predicted.
Decorative glazing. Decorative or frosted glass panels are used for these glazed units.
Fire resistant glazing. Due to their special design, the glazed units of this type are completely resistant to fire for a certain duration, i.e., they arrest fire, smoke and noxious fumes.
ANITFOG glazing. Effective heat insulation creates perfect conditions for condensation of humidity. Condensation can be avoided by using ANTIFOG glazed units that are coated with special film, which prevents cooling of the glass surface below the condensation temperature. Fog droplets are prevented to precipitate and form an opaque layer, so that you could enjoy the view to the outside at all times of the year. The anticondensation film is completely transparent and maintenance free.
Self-cleaning glazing that uses the forces of nature to maintain a cleaner and clearer appearance. The outside surface of these glazed units is coated with an invisible film. The film breaks down the dirt under impact of ultraviolet radiation, so that it is easily washed away by rain. The higher is ultraviolet exposure followed by rain, the cleaner is the glass. The glass remains clean much longer, yet that does not mean it never requires cleaning. Note: Deployed glazed units require occasional rinsing. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth or sponge. All cloths used for cleaning of the glass should be rinsed often to keep them free of dirt, which may damage the glass surface film. The water may be softened by a small amount of liquid soap.
